Projects to help
provide support
and wellbeing.

The services that The Old Boat provide support our local residents and also people from further afield. These services have been provided from information from the community after performing community surveys and holding open days.

We rely on donations, not just of money but also of everyday items that include food and clothes, and support, in order to continue these ventures and to help those that need it most.

The Pantry

On a donation basis, the pantry provides the everyday staples to take away. A selection of food, and various non-food items such as household essentials like toilet paper, health and sanitary products and pet supplies.

There is no referral process, access is for anyone and everyone.

The Pantry is regularly restocked, holding dry goods, refrigerated and fresh, and works to redistribute any wasted food.

The project has received great support, with kind donations from households and local businesses, and is partnered with a few non-profit organisations that provide support within the community.

Those include;
Fareshare (charity)
The Community Food Network
Brighton and Hove Food Partnership

The Pantry is open every day 9 am – 5 pm, and is self service.

We like reusables, so don’t forget to bring your own bag!

Boatopia

Boatopia is our very own volunteer led take and donate charity shop that stocks good quality clothes and shoes for all adults and children.

Donations can be made in the form of volunteering, clothing, money or a smile and in return you can pick up some additions to your wardrobe. As always its on a donate as you can/feel basis.

The funds that are made from Boatopia are plugged back into community projects and needs. Whether that be food for the pantry, plants for the community garden or a professional to come in and teach people new skills.

Not only does Boatopia provide a service to the community but it also reduces waste and is another step towards a greener planet.

Boataopia at the Old Boat is open 9-5 everyday and we are always open for donations of more good quality stock!

Community Garden

An ongoing project to create a safe, open and inclusive space to connect with others or spend time alone surrounded by nature. You can plant, grow, play, relax or just sit and be.

Maintained by professionals and volunteers, the garden has over the last year taken shape to cater to all abilities and offers an opportunity for people to learn new skills, dip in for a day or maintain longer involvement. You can bring your own pots to plant alongside the lead volunteer or request things that you would like to see.  Eventually we hope to be able to grow our own produce to use in community meals or in the cafe and be a great area to learn how to grow, cook and then eat!

The garden also can be a space for free and natural play for building dens or mixing potions.

The garden is also included when hiring out the back room for parties and events or groups that want to provide a beautiful outside space.

This garden is ultimately for the community and to serve your needs.

Please get in touch if you would like to access or book the garden or volunteer with us!

Community
Kitchen

The Commercial kitchen located in the back room has been funded by grants from the Chalk Cliff Trust, The Pride Foundation and from repurposed funds from criminal activity from Brighton and Hove Police. With 4 fridges, 2 cookers and a double doored freezer it provides a great space for kitchen projects.

This has been a long term developing services that came from one of the community surveys and we hope will provide a number of classes or groups that would cater to a wide range of people. This could include cookery classes, food knowledge classes, cooking on a budget, healthy eating and community dining. A place where people could get a hot meal, a conversation, meet new people regardless of anything.

The space is also available to rent as a commercial kitchen to businesses or other groups that may wish to run a class or event or just a group of people wishing to have a get together. Please get in contact for more details or pricing.
