Old Boat's Costume Library proves consistently popular with the community!
As the cost of living continues to rise, families are struggling more than ever with covering the costs of their children participating in events and activities, and providing costumes for special days can be very expensive! Something that started as a small initiative has become a really important service that we are able to offer at Old Boat. Our Costume Library now has well over 100 costumes for various ages and themes, suitable for occasions such as World Book Day and Halloween. These costumes have been donated by members of our community when their children have finished with them so have cost us nothing. We take a small deposit from the borrower which is given back upon return of the costume. Back in October, we rented out 113 costumes for Halloween, and have had even more donated.
Our Volunteers are SUPERSTARS!
Our amazing volunteers take donated costumes home to wash and mend, if necessary. They are bagged up with their accessories, ready to be loaned out when needed. And of course, our volunteers come in to coordinate the rental process. This means the café staff can concentrate on keeping service running smoothly.
Donations always welcome!
If your child has a costume they have outgrown, we will happily accept donations year round. We are so pleased with how popular this resource is, we can never have too many. We take outfits for all ages, including adults.
